When looking at silicone molds from sellers on Etsy, you'll find everything from mini astronaut figurines to giant shapes for custom tables. But whether you're checking out molds for resin jewelry or want to add some kawaii molds to your collection, you should consider the thickness and finish of the silicone.
Silicone is pliable and heat-resistant, making it an excellent material for all types of resin molds. If the resin mold has a glossy shine, so will your finished product. A matte mold will create a matte finish on your newly poured figurine.
Not all silicone mold kits work the same. Some resin molds will release your earring or pendant easily. However, you may find that other molds don't want to let go. If the mold is too thick, it will be less flexible; if it is too thin, it may tear. Thick silicone molds designed for resin craft often release the cured resin more easily than thin-walled molds. Regardless of the thickness of your mold, have some quick-release spray handy.
